About

My name is Nick and I am in my mid-30s. Although I was physically healthy until I was 8, I became disabled during a difficult few years and spent lots of time in and out of hospitals, enduring numerous operations and experimental treatments.

During that time, I became immersed in culture and entertainment – it helped sustain me during the darkest of days. Music in particular helped and inspired me, and increasingly so did movies and literature. My tastes are wide ranging, musically speaking for instance, Mozart to Metallica to Massive Attack.

Over the years, I have been lucky to have had some great experiences meeting some of those I really admire while forging my own way in life. I have worked for the BBC, ITV and appeared on TV, radio and in print at various points. My parents both worked in media, as well as other relatives, so writing is pretty much in my blood.

I chose the name MePlus1 as it is a reference often used in the entertainment world and also because I tend to go to events with a companion. Makes perfect sense. The line below the title, in full “I don’t care about no wheelchair – I got so much left to do with my life!”, comes from the fantastic song “Black Gold” by Soul Asylum. Check out the video below.

The purpose of this site is to share my enthusiasm for the things that really stir and fire me up. While you may recognise some well-known names, I hope you discover some that you may not have known about or missed out on. There are also articles on disabled access and facilities at entertainment related venues. I use a wheelchair and crutches, so I always notice how well – or otherwise – places cater for us less mobile types.

I hope you enjoy your visit, and please come back soon.
